Local Authority

Parents want their children to have the best start in life and to reach their full potential. As corporate parents, the young person’s local authorities have equally high aspirations for the young people they look after. Together The Loddon School® and the individual Local Authorities create a strong partnership to make sure the high level of provision is provided.

The Local Authority have a duty under the Children Act 1989 to safeguard and promote the welfare of a child “looked after” by them. This includes a particular duty to promote the child’s educational achievement, wherever they live or are educated. They work with the school to ensure each young person has an up-to-date, effective and high quality Personal Education Plans (PEPs) that focus on educational outcomes.
