School Nurse

The Loddon School are currently recruiting for a School Nurse to work full-time in Sherfield-on-Loddon near Basingstoke. The Loddon School is both a registered children’s home and school for 28 children who have the most severe and complex learning difficulties and usually autism. Many children also have additional problems such as epilepsy, self-injurious behaviour, aggression and restrictive behaviour. The school is registered for pupils from the ages of 8-19. The children live at the school 52 weeks a year so The Loddon School is a home which provides education, leisure, play and outings.

You will be working with the Health Team on a day-to-day basis and you will be jointly responsible for the provision of all health care needs of the children. You will be required to liaise with other health professionals, along with multidisciplinary team members within the school.

Duties include:

  • Supervising visits with health professionals and assisting our children to hospital appointments and surgeries in the community.
  • Observing, assessing and monitoring the children’s health, development and emotional wellbeing, initiating action when necessary.
  • Contacting parents concerning the health needs of their children.
  • Supporting the Health Team with staff training in the dispensing of medication, epilepsy and associated risk assessments.
  • Offering advice and treatment for minor injuries.
  • Ordering medication from the GP and validating through internal systems once collected from the pharmacy.
  • Contributing to children’s reviews with a health report and attending reviews as required.

The successful candidate must be qualified to RN Level 1 with an active registration and be able to demonstrate evidence of post registration continuing professional development. You must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills particularity the ability to relate to children, young adults, parents and colleagues. You must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, experienced and flexible.

You will be employed to work at the school full time between Monday – Friday and will be required to work weekends as part of the Care Management team. The salary for this positions varies according to experience and relevant qualifications.

Weekend Learning and Care Support Assistant

The role is to care for our children on a daily basis and ensure all their needs are met. We focus on care and education 24/7 at the school. Instead of teaching our children in classrooms learning for our children takes place via activities. There is no typical day at Loddon as every day is different so if you are looking for a new and exciting challenge this is the place for you!

We have many different facilities including; an indoor swimming pool, paddocks area with ponies, donkey’s, pigs, sheep and chickens, café area, sensory adventure playground, sensory rooms and leisure barn. Activities could range from a long walk through the country or meeting our animals at our very own farm. You could be taking part in a swimming lesson at our pool or you might be having an art or music lesson outside in our vast grounds.

Night Learning and Care Support Assistant

The Loddon School, based in Sherfield-on-Loddon is both a home and school to 28 children who have the most severe and complex learning difficulties and severe autism. Our children live at the school 52 weeks a year. The Loddon School is a home which provides education, leisure, play and outings.

We are looking for dedicated individuals who are passionate about providing the highest standards of care. Previous experience of looking after children with autism would be an advantage however a can-do attitude and commitment to the children and your team is equally as important and full training will be given.

You will ensure the safety of the children throughout the night adhering to school’s policies, procedures and the children’s guidelines. You must be prepared to work flexible hours to ensure that planned activities take place with adequate staffing and supervision. The night shifts start at 7.30pm and finish at 7.45am, you will be required to work three nights a week on a shift rota.

The salary is dependent on experience and qualifications but varies from £17,694.00 to £18,794.00 /year
